Track and Field competes at districts, sends five to sectionals

 

Cameron’s track and field team traveled to St. Joseph Benton on Tuesday, May 10 to compete in the Benton Cardinal Relay, the team’s last season meet prior to districts.

Senior Levi Marlay provided the Dragons with their lone win, placing first in the Men’s Shot Put Event with a distance of 48-02.00.

In other Dragons results, Junior Joseph Zinkand placed second in the Men’s Pole Vault with a height of 12-00.00. Sophomore Jacob Barbee placed fifth in the Men’s 1600m Run with a time of 4:57.61. Sophomore Tristan Michaelis placed sixth in the Men’s 1600m Run with a time of 5:02.75. Sophomore Josh Stevenson placed sixth in the Men’s 400m Dash with a time of 56.78, and Senior Nathan Jackson placed fifth in the Men’s 3200m Run with a time of 11:31.78.

The Dragons secured a sixth place finish with a score of 26.

For the Lady Dragons, Freshman Kenzie Terhune placed sixth in the Women’s High Jump with a height of 4-06.00. Senior Morgan Choate placed second in the Women’s 100m Hurdles with a time of 16.32. Freshman Khayla Hollingsworth placed sixth in the Women’s 100m Dash with a time of 13.64 and fourth in the Women’s 400m Dash with a time of 1:03.67. Freshman Nicole Jackson placed fourth in the Women’s 1600m Run with a time of 5:54.75 and Junior Hannah Robinson placed fourth in the Women’s 800m Run with a time of 2:31.49.

The Lady Dragons ended the meet in seventh place with a score of 22.

Track and Field’s district meet was hosted by Chillicothe last Saturday, May 14. Five Cameron athletes prolonged their 2016 seasons by securing spots in the sectional meet. Hannah Robinson placed third in the Women’s 800m Run with a time of 2:33.59. Khayla Hollingsworth placed fourth in the Women’s 400m Dash with a time of 1:03.87. Morgan Choate placed third in the Women’s 100m Hurdles with a time of 16.43. Tristan Michaelis placed fifth in the Men’s 400m Dash with a time of 54.08 and Joseph Zinkand tied for second in Men’s Pole Vault with a height of 11-06.00. The five will travel on Saturday, May 21 to compete in the sectional meet.

“We had a really good day and this is the most athletes that have advanced to sectionals in quite a while.” Head Coach Matt Wenck said.
