Track team sends three to state
Last weekend, the five Cameron High School track athletes that advanced to sectionals after the district qualifier competed for a chance to travel to Jefferson City High School for the 2016 State Track and Field Meet on Friday and Saturday, May 27-28.
Junior Hannah Robinson qualified for sectionals with a time of 2:33.59 in the Women’s 800m Run. Robinson did not secure an advancement to state, placing fifth at last weekend’s sectional meet.
Sophomore Tristan Michaelis qualified for sectionals with a time of 54.08 in the Men’s 400m Dash. His performance last weekend landed him in seventh place. Michaelis will not advance to state.
Senior Morgan Choate will be advancing to state, qualifying for sectionals with a time of 16.43 in the Women’s 100m Hurdles and placing second at the sectional meet.
Junior Joe Zinkand qualified for sectionals with a 11-06.00 height in the Men’s Pole Vault. Zinkand’s second place finish last weekend locked down his advancement to state.
Freshman Khayla Hollingsworth also obtained a time worthy of advancement to state, qualifying for sectionals with a 1:03.87 time in the Women’s 400m Dash, and placing third at sectionals.
“All of the athletes who competed performed very well. We had multiple personal bests and it is great to take 3 athletes to state.” Head Coach Matt Wenck said.
