Wrestlers take second at MEC tournament

With two individual champions and eight medalists in total, the Cameron Dragons finished second at the Midland Empire Conference wrestling tournament in Chillicothe Saturday.

The Dragons scored 309.5 points to finish runner-up to Smithville. The Warriors had seven individuals win first place and amassed 418 points.

Justin Gans won the 126-pound title, defeating Alex Rivera of Smithville by fall at 5:30 to go undefeated for the tournament.

Kyle Anderson won three of his five matches by fall and took the crown at 170-pounds. Anderson beat Dean Adkins of Chillicothe, 5-2, to wrap up his day and improve to 31-1 for the season.

Four grapplers came in second, Dawson Cox (160), Caleb Shanks (182), Tyler Gerber (195), and Levi Marlay (285).

Finishing in third place was Ty Pratt (106) and J.W. Bryant (220).

In other results for Cameron, Sawyer Day (113), Logan Cantwell (145) and Steven Walser (152) all came in fourth, and Jon Stevenson (120) Zane Farmer (132) and Josh Stevenson (138) finished fifth.

The Dragons are back on the mat Jan. 28 when they host Pleasant Hill and Kansas City Center with the matches starting at 6 p.m.
