New amphitheater scope tied to special projects fund

The Cameron Park Board hopes to make the Cameron city park a regional attraction through concerts and other performances, but that may not come without financial assistance from the City of Cameron Special Projects Fund.

Cameron Public Works Director Drew Bontrager described the current version of the Cameron city park amphitheater as bare-bones, but said it could be so much more with a little extra funding.

“We have the amphitheater, the sidewalks, the shelter up top, [American’s with Disabilities Act] access, but there is no big stage at the bottom of the hill,” Bontrager said. “… It’s a little more than a concrete pad with a roof over it. There has been some talk and discussions among the community, the [Cameron City Council] and some other organizations if there is some type of collaborative partnership that can build that into something bigger. More of a regional destination like some other communities have to attract more regional musical acts or bigger venues.”
